Questions and Answers

Q: Who is eligible to become a participant of H.XO.P.E.?

Inmates who have up to 18 months left on their active prison sentence and have sufficient documentation to support the successfully completion of pre-release/re-entry programs (Value Development Program - VDP).

Q: What type of VDP documentation is needed to be eligible for services from  H.XO.P.E.?

Substance abuse therapy, anger management, job readiness, vocational development, site-specific release preparation, relapse prevention, life skills training, diagnostic and risk assessment pre-release screening and have a good behavior record.

Q. Are all xoffenders accepted into the program no matter the crime/offence committed?

All applications will be reviewed on a case by case basis, and depending upon the resources of H.XO.P.E., a determination will be made.

Q: Is it a guaranteed that H.XO.P.E. will find employment for the person?

No. 

Q. Are there any fees involved?

This is a voluntary participation and there are no fees for services provided by H.XO.P.E. However, there is a 6 month post-release agreement that must be followed if H.XO.P.E. is successful in securing employment for the individual.

Q. Do you work with female offenders?

Yes, women are eligible for services from H.XO.P.E.

Q.  Do you have a list of employers who have hired someone with a felony?

Yes, but the list is limited. We also work with individual employers on a case by case basis.

Q.  Do you offer financial, housing or training assistance?

No.  H.XO.P.E. does not provide financial, housing or training assistance to participants at this time.

Q.  How do I register for H.XO.P.E. services?

Submit a registration using the Inmate Register form.

Q.  Are there any requirements once I register?

Yes, the individual must proactively keep H.XO.P.E. informed on all value development or pre-release/re-entry programs that they have un/successfully completed and behavioral infractions that have occurred within 18 months before being released.

Q. How do I keep H.XO.P.E. informed on my VDP or behavior status?

Submit an update to H.XO.P.E. using the Inmate Register/Update form, or send information by mail to our address. There is no need to submit supporting documentation at that time, just indicate the activity/course that was completed or the behavior infraction that occurred.

Q.  How long does it take for H.XO.P.E. to find an individual employment?

We may or may not be able to find an individual employment, and there is no specified time frame. We encourage the individual to pursue every available employment opportunities at their disposal.

Q. What states or cities is H.XO.P.E. services offered in?

Presently, Louisiana (Gulf Coast) and Southeast Houston. We are attempting to develop contacts with major corporations so that we can service other cities and states.

Q. What if an inmate successfully completes VDP but will not be released to an area where H.XO.P.E. services is offered?

If the individual was registered with H.XO.P.E. prior to release and have supporting documentation, we can send a letter of reference recognizing the individual’s participation in H.XO.P.E.

Q. What actions should be taken when released.

Contact H.XO.P.E. and provide them with the necessary VDP paperwork to support profile, specific information on employment focus and informed them of your availability for employment.
